Use and Maintenance Tips
Odors and Cleaning
Whether you have a top load or front load washer, you need to clean it periodically to prevent odors or mold from building up. The best solution to Clean Your Washer With Bleach. Once a months run a Hot cycle with bleach, for more extreme cases, pause the washer mid cycle and let it soak for 30 mins. You can also use baking soda and white vinegar. Pour a cup of baking soda directly on the drum, start a hot water cycle and add white vinegar in the soap dispenser. Run an additional rinse cycle to make sure everything is flushed out.
Mold
If you have a Front Load washer, beside cleaning it once a month as described above, you also need to keep the Door Gasket dry and clean, otherwise it will attract mold. In fact, this is one of the most common issues I see when working on Front Load Washers. If mold gets on the gasket, it will also get on the clothes and in more extreme cases they will have a bad smell. It’s important to keep mold under control because it can be an irritant to your skin, eyes or Respiratory System. Black mold is especially dangerous for people who have allergies, asthma or a compromised immune system. As always, prevention is better than cure. After each load, make sure you take the clothes out of the washer as soon as possible. After that wipe the gasket until dry, make sure you reach inside and peal back the gasket lip, assuring all the area is dry. Keep the door open all the time to let fresh air flow and prevent moisture from being trapped inside.
HE Detergent
High Efficiency HE Washers use much less water, which is why it is very important to use small amounts of HE Detergent. HE Detergent is usually highly concentrated, therefore 1 tablespoon is just enough for a regular load. If used in excess, HE Detergent will build up inside the washer, creating a good environment for mold to grow. Also it can lead to too many suds, that can cause the washer to not function properly or even cause a leak.
Prevent a Flood
A great way to prevent water damages is to get a Water Alarm Leak Detector. You can find them at any home improvement store near you, or you can do a Google search to find the best and right options for you.
Check Fill Hoses
It is recommended to inspect water fill hoses every 2-3 months, to make sure there are no signs of water leak, cracks or corrosion. If you have Rubber Hoses, it’s best to replace them with stainless steel. Many manufacturers recommend replacing the hoses every five years.
Drain Trap
Most front load washers have a drain pump trap or filter that is easily accessible from the bottom. Over time lint, hair, coins etc. can build up and clog the filter, causing washer to stop draining or malfunction. It is recommended to clean the pump filter every 1-3 months depending on how much use the washer gets. Use a Wet Vac or trash bag to drain the water out, then cleaned the filter of any obstructions.

Check the circuit breaker to make sure you have the correct power to the dryer. On some brands of dryers the motor will run, but will not heat.
The circuit breaker for the dryer is 240 volts and the motor requires 120 volts to operate. The remaining 120 volts is required to power up the element on an electric dryer.
