Dryer Repair Philadelphia - House Appliance Repairs
Most Front Load Washers have a drain pump trap or filter that is easily accessible from the bottom. Over time lint, hair, coins etc. can build up and clog the filter, causing washer to stop draining or malfunction. It is recommended to clean the pump filter every 1-3 months depending on how much use the washer gets. Use a wet vac or trash bag to drain the water out, then cleaned the filter of any obstructions.

Use and Maintenance Tips
Properly Maintaining Your Dryer is highly important not just to extend Dryers Longevity, but also to prevent fires. Lint and high temperatures are a lethal combination. In fact, lint is so flammable that you can save it and use it as a fire-starter when camping or for your indoor fireplace. Therefore it is very important to make sure that air is flowing properly. As a precocious measure, always make sure your home when the dryer is running, and test all smoke alarms monthly.
Clean the Lint Filter
All the air flowing through your dryer goes through the lint filter, which is designed to catch as much lint as possible to prevent a portion of it from making its way to the vent or the inside of the dryer. You should scrape the Lint Filter after each load you dry, also it is recommended that you thoroughly wash it and rinse every three months, you can use dishwasher soap and brush it, or simply put it in the dishwasher.
Clean the Exhaust Vent
Most of the lint that is not caught by the Lint Filter ends up in the Exhaust Vent. It is highly recommended to have the Vent Professionally Cleaned every 1-3 years, depending on the length of the vent and the amount of usage your dryer gets. Keep an eye on our blog because soon we will come with a detailed tutorial on how to clean the exhaust vent yourself, although we recommend to let the experts take care of it.
Outside Vent Cap
Periodically inspect the outside vent cap of the exhaust to make sure there is nothing restricting the airflow, and that the flappers are closing properly. If you have a bird cage installed make sure you inspect it and clean it every 3-6 months. We also recommend using Metal Vent Caps instead of plastic to minimize the chance of a fire.
Don’t Overload
Overloading The Dryer Can Cause a number of issues and it’s not recommended. First, airflow is what allows clothes to dry, if you pack it too much airflow will be restricted so it will take much longer to dry and use more energy. Second, wet clothes are heavy, so putting a lot of weight in the dryer can damage it over time. Third, if your using a timed cycle and the load is too large, clothes won’t dry completely and you might end up with a musty smell over time.
Dump the Dryer Sheets
Dryer Sheets are made of a lubricant, which is used to soften up your clothes and remove the static electricity. The issue is that the lubricant leaves more residue, which builds up over time and attracts more lint or other debris that clog the filter, reducing airflow consequently reducing dryers efficiency and longevity. Instead, we recommend you use Liquid Fabric Softener, by adding it in your washer during the rinse cycle. Liquid fabric softener will make your clothes softer, reduce wrinkles and static electricity, and it helps remove lint from clothes. The less lint on your clothes, the better for your dryer. Make sure you don’t put the liquid fabric softener directly on your fabrics to avoid stains.
